# Junklab brand guide
October 2026 | Current website identity

## Name and positioning
Junklab is an independent Australian studio making games, interactive websites and creative technology. We bring design, engineering and experimentation together to turn ambitious ideas into things people can play, explore and use.

Alongside client projects, we’re developing Red Skies at Dawn and Perianth. We’re also building Junklab Engine, a modular WebGPU engine with visual tools for creating interactive worlds.

Warmth with backbone: the courage to make something different, and the integrity to stand behind it. Confident, curious, human and generous. Write positively, use concrete language, and avoid inflated claims. Use full stops, commas or colons instead of em dashes.

## Studio identity
Use the supplied studio logomark OR wordmark independently in a composition. Never combine them into a lockup. Do not append “Games” to the name. Write Junklab in prose; the lowercase wordmark is supplied artwork, not typeset text.

Preserve proportions, colours and transparent cutouts. Never stretch, retype, rotate, outline or add shadows/effects. Maintain clear space of at least one quarter of the asset height. Suggested starting minimums: mark 32px; wordmark 120px. Verify at final size.

Supplied: orange and forest marks; forest and cream wordmarks. SVG is preferred for scalable digital use. PNG exports have transparent backgrounds; light artwork needs a dark background.

## Junklab Engine identity
Junklab Engine is a separate product identity. Write “Junklab Engine” in full and use its modular E mark to identify the engine. The studio's logomark and wordmark remain separate assets.

The Engine mark may sit beside the product name as an Engine lockup, following the examples at https://junklab.au/engine. This product treatment does not change the studio rule above. Do not combine the studio logomark with the studio wordmark.

Use the supplied forest or cream Engine SVG mark. Preserve its proportions, rounded modules and transparent gaps. Do not stretch, rotate, outline or add effects. Keep clear space of at least one quarter of the mark height. Start at 32px high and check the final size. Use forest on light surfaces and cream on forest.

The Engine shares the studio palette and Geist type family. Its display treatment uses a heavier weight and modular shapes. Credit captures to Junklab and identify the development project shown. Red Skies scenery and game assets are examples of a consuming project and are not a promise of content included with an engine licence. ## Palette (sRGB)
Forest #102E27: primary type and dark surfaces
Cream #F4ECDD: primary canvas
Ember #F26032: action and emphasis
Sky #BDDCE5: supporting accent
Gold #E9BF55: restrained accent, especially the X

Lead with forest and cream. Use forest text on cream/sky/gold/ember, or cream on forest. Avoid light text on light accent colours. Check contrast in the finished design. Print colours need colour-managed conversion and proofs.

## Typography and spacing
Geist: headings, body and UI. Geist Mono: occasional technical values/metadata. Arial/system sans-serif fallback. Font source and licence: https://vercel.com/font (fonts are not redistributed in this kit).

Headings: 450–600 weight, tight but legible spacing. Body: 400 weight, 16–20px, line height 1.5–1.65. Labels: 12–14px with modest tracking. Use an 8px spacing rhythm, at least 20–24px phone gutters, generous desktop margins and body lines around 60–75 characters. Keep responsive text readable; never shrink everything to fit.

## Shapes and motion
Four supporting shapes: circle, capsule, arch, wedge. Balance their apparent size and weight; stroke thickness relates to the wordmark. Hero palette: orange circle, sky capsule, cream arch, gold wedge. Shapes support the brand but do not replace the logo.

Use weight, gravity, restraint and gentle rebound. Keep UI transitions responsive. Honour reduced motion, stop offscreen work, preserve native touch scrolling and keep content usable without animation. Static branded fallbacks are appropriate on mobile.
